Namaste, all!

Thank you for taking a look at our blog! We will be updating this blog throughout the summer, so please subscribe to see what we are up to and check out the rest of the website to learn more about the team!

This summer, we are working in Kalinchowk, Nepal. The EWB team is constructing a community tap stand at the Balodaya highschool, and home tap stands for the Nepali initiative "One Home, One Tap" which aims to provide water access to all Nepali citizens. We are also assessing for a latrine designed to improve menstrual hygiene management for girls attending the high school.

We are also lucky enough to be working in Kalinchowk at the same time as Sabah Pirani (an Engineering for Developing Communities graduate student at CU Boulder) and John Galetzka(our drone team mentor from Unavco) who are mapping the region via drone. Abbie is conducting water quality testing in Kalinchowk and will integrate data points into the drone generated map so that we can identify the best places for future water filtration projects.

After more than 24 hours of travel, we have arrived in Nepal and are staying in Dhulikhel outside of Kathmandu with Bhupal Raj Khatiwada (our Nepali mentor and in country NGO (NCDC) staff) and Lisa Cameli (our EWB mentor from Portland).

Yesterday afternoon we met briefly with Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha to discuss future collaboration between CU Boulder and Kathmandu University. We talked about the potential of helping start an EWB chapter at KU that we could collaborate with during the deisgn process and implementation and monitoring.

This morning we are returning to KU for a tour, lunch, and more discussion! Tomorrow we leave for Charikot.

Already, Nepal has proven itself a beautiful place filled with wonderful people and we cannot wait to explore more! We are so grateful for all of the support from the CU Boulder community, family, and friends. So many EWB students worked so hard this year to design, fundraise for, and coordinate the projects we will be implementing. We are so lucky to have such a solid team, both here and back home!

Thank you for reading! Check back soon!

Best,

Abbie Weeks, Emily Zuetell, James Brannen, and Daniel Kim
