Charikot

Abigail Weeks

Good morning from Charikot! We are staying here at the Charikot Inn for two nights to meet with NCDC, finalize designs and purchase supplies for construction.

Yesterday we spent the day at Kathmandu University. We got a tour of the turbine testing lab and the Technical Training Center. Afterwards, we had a wonderful lunch at the canteen and then attended lectures on water resources in Nepal and waste management and biogas research. Afterwards, we met with the faculty in charge of the Community Education Program at KU. The program had over 1500 students working on projects in communities throughout Nepal. Everyone was very enthusiastic about a partnership with CU Boulder Engineers Without Borders. We are excited to begin this partnership and work on pilot projects with the students at KU so that we can all learn from each others expertise and experience.

Early Friday morning we set out into the mountains on the way to Charikot. It was a five hour drive through steep mountains and and worn down, muddy roads. We stopped for a breakfast of eggs and roti in a small village that our driver suggested. About and hour from Charikot, we met up with a jeep of NCDC staff. We stopped for a literal roadside meeting were we made introductions and plans for our time in Nepal.

We leave for Kalinchowk on Sunday.

Thank you for reading! Check back soon for more updates!

Best,
